Now Accepting Fundraising Captains for 2024-2025!
The Captain’s Initiative is back for round 2!
A central purpose of our chapter is to raise funds to support our chapter’s operations and scholarship fund and to support initiatives, projects, and programs associated with the Southern University System. Last year our chapter administered $10,000 in scholarships to area students attending Southern, and we are on track to do the same (and some) again this year. In the past, we’ve also purchased equipment and supplies for several of the University’s sports teams and the Human Jukebox; hosted students interning or attending conferences in the DMV; provided support to clubs and organizations; and assisted students experiencing financial hardship. We’ve been able to support such efforts because of your giving, your participation in our fundraisers, and your solicitation of donations and sponsorships from within and outside of your network. My gratitude cannot be expressed enough!
Join the SUAF-WDC Executive Committee in becoming a Fundraising Captain!
A Fundraising Captain (hereafter “Captain”) is a SUAF-WDC chapter member or friend of the chapter who raises a minimum of $550 for the SUAF-WDC Chapter through the selling of ads for the digital 2025 Mardi Gras Ball souvenir journal; securing sponsorships for the Mardi Gras Ball or other signature chapter events; and/or soliciting donations to support the chapter's operations and scholarship funds. Captains may also make personal monetary donations to achieve their goal. Ticket and table purchases for SUAF-WDC events do not apply.
You’ll be entitled to several incentives once you officially reach Captain status! Such incentives include an invitation to an exclusive reception for Captains at the end of the fiscal year; exclusive SUAF-WDC Chapter apparel; a “Captain’s Spotlight” feature on our website, social media pages, and Mardi Gras Ball slideshow; and a chance to be part of the SUAF-WDC Mardi Gras Ball Royal Court!
As much as we love and value community, we also have an appreciation for a healthy dose of competition! I know you didn’t think we were going to ask you to bow out gracefully once you’ve reached the $550 mark?! The top male and female fundraisers will form the Royal Court, with the highest fundraisers being crowned King and Queen!
Other Royal Court Positions include:
Prince and Princess (2nd Highest)
Duke and Duchess (3rd Highest)
Marquess and Marchioness (4th Highest)
Ranking on the Royal Court will be determined by total individual fundraising achieved by 12:00 PM Noon, Saturday, February 8, 2025.
We have a few additional surprises for Captains who reach “The Captains’ Circle” by raising a minimum $5,000!
A special thank you to our 2023-2024 Captains!
They raised over $20,000!
