We are a membership-based organization that heavily relies on our members to serve in leadership roles, get involved with committees, and have a critical and valuable voice in the decisions and governance of our organization. We can do great things when we are committed in partnership because membership matters!

Chapter Membership

The Southern University Alumni Federation - Washington, DC Chapter offers several membership types based on a person’s affiliation to Southern University. We welcome alumni, attendees, and Friends of Southern from the DMV and beyond to consider membership with our great chapter. Choose a membership type that best aligns with your relationship to the University.

tYPES OF mEMBERS

  • Persons who hold degrees conferred by Southern University at any of its campuses.

  • Persons who attended Southern University at any of its campuses for at least one school session but did not receive a degree, diploma, or certificate from the University.

  • Persons who did not attend Southern University but are interested in advancing the cause of the University.  Affiliate Members shall not hold elected positions but can be appointed to non-elected positions by the President of the Chapter.

  • A complimentary one-year Regular Membership is offered to new graduates of Southern University. Please contact the 2nd VP here if you are looking to join the Washington, DC Chapter and you completed undergraduate studies at any of the Southern University campuses within the last year.

dUES AND rENEWALs

  • Annual membership dues are $50 for Regular, Associate, and Affiliate members.

  • Annual membership is aligned with the fiscal year of July 1 - June 30. 

  • Membership renewal notices are sent to current members to remind them to remit their dues and avoid lapses.

  • Members may renew their membership for the subsequent year at any time or pay for multiple years in advance. Please contact the 2nd VP here to inquire about multi-year membership payment.

  • Initial payment of $50 is required but will be refunded back.

National  Membership 

The Washington, DC alumni chapter is a recognized affiliate chapter of the Southern University Alumni Federation. We encourage all our local chapter members to join, renew, or enhance your membership with the Federation. Multiple membership types are available - regular, associate, life, and enhanced ruby, sapphire, and diamond.
