The Southern University Alumni Federation-Washington, DC Chapter offers financial scholarships and assistance to newly admitted and current Southern University and A&M College students whose domicile is Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, or surrounding area.

The scholarships are awarded on a semesterly basis, and are evaluated according to academic achievement, educational objectives, and career aspirations. Award amounts vary and may be used for tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, or other educational expenses.

The Southern University Alumni Federation-Washington, DC Chapter administers merit-based scholarships to newly admitted and current Southern University students each semester (fall/spring) in recognition of academic achievement and persistence towards degree completion. Students are required to apply each semester to be considered for the chapter scholarships. The application process is competitive and a committee performs a holistic review of submitted application materials.

  • • Be a newly admitted or current Southern University student from the SUAF – Washington, DC Chapter service area (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia).

    • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 GPA (good academic standing).

    • Submit a completed electronic application, including a copy of your unofficial transcript, and an essay.

HARRIS Scholarship

The Harris Scholars Scholarship Program was named for the late Drs. Rudolph and Janette Hoston Harris who believed in education, service, and the youth of the District of Columbia. Southern University was the foundation for education for Drs. Rudolph and Janette Hoston Harris and the spark for their views on impacting the world. They were dedicated members of the Southern University Alumni Federation - Washington, DC chapter since the 1960s and were instrumental in shaping the chapter into what we know it to be today. A scholarship was established in their names via The Consortium Leadership Foundation (CLF) upon their passing.

    • Demonstrate leadership in their community and school

    • Submit a completed electronic application, including an essay on the following topic: “How I plan to impact my community and the world.”
