Our Chapter

The Southern University Alumni Federation - Washington, DC Chapter (SUAF-WDC) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with approximately 150 financial members annually and 63 years of legacy. The Chapter is committed to supporting the mission of the Southern University System through alumni engagement, student recruitment, community outreach, and scholarship support throughout the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) region. The Chapter raises funds throughout the year to provide scholarships to deserving students attending one of the Southern University System campuses and to support programs that strengthen our alumni community.

The SUAF-WDC Chapter has proudly supported students from the DMV region and surrounding areas who choose to attend Southern University. Contributions help ensure that students have the resources and encouragement needed to succeed academically and professionally. Our impact over the past three years includes: 

  • Over $40,000 awarded in scholarships and student support

  • Recruited and helped retained over 100 students from the DMV currently enrolled at Southern University

  • Successfully launched and provide continuous external advisory support the the DMV Jagz on-campus student organization

This year's “Legacy in Gold” Mardi Gras Ball will bring together alumni, community leaders, corporate partners, and supporters for an unforgettable evening featuring: Three-course dinner, Distinguished Alumni Awards, Live entertainment, Dancing, Silent auction, Casino games, and Special guests.

Most importantly, this formal event is a party with a purpose, generating critical support for the chapter's scholarship program and operational initiatives.

In-Kind Sponsorship

Businesses and individuals can also support the “Legacy in Gold” Mardi Gras Ball through in-kind sponsorships by donating products, services, or experiences that enhance the event. Examples include catering, décor, floral arrangements, entertainment, photography, printing, audiovisual services, hotel accommodations, gift items, auction packages, transportation, and event rentals. In-kind sponsors receive recognition based on the value of their contribution while helping us create an exceptional experience for our guests and maximize the impact of our fundraising efforts.
