We are a membership-based organization that heavily relies on our members to serve in leadership roles, get involved with committees, and have a critical and valuable voice in the decisions and governance of our organization. We can do great things when we are committed in partnership because membership matters!
Chapter Membership
The Southern University Alumni Federation - Washington, DC Chapter offers several membership types based on a person’s affiliation to Southern University. We welcome alumni, attendees, and Friends of Southern from the DMV and beyond to consider membership with our great chapter. Choose a membership type that best aligns with your relationship to the University.

Regular Members
Persons who hold degrees conferred by Southern University at any of its campuses.
Associate Members
Persons who attended Southern University at any of its campuses for at least one school session but did not receive a degree, diploma, or certificate from the University.
Affiliate Members
Persons who did not attend Southern University but are interested in advancing the cause of the University. Affiliate Members shall not hold elected positions but can be appointed to non-elected positions by the President of the Chapter.
New Graduate Members
A complimentary one-year Regular Membership is offered to new graduates of Southern University. Please contact the 2nd VP here if you are looking to join the Washington, DC Chapter and you completed undergraduate studies at any of the Southern University campuses within the last year.

Annual Membership Dues
Annual membership dues are $50 for Regular, Associate, and Affiliate members.
Fiscal Year
Annual membership is aligned with the fiscal year of July 1 - June 30.
Renewal Notices
Membership renewal notices are sent to current members to remind them to remit their dues and avoid lapses.
Multi-Year Membership
Members may renew their membership for the subsequent year at any time or pay for multiple years in advance. Please contact the 2nd VP here to inquire about multi-year membership payment.
New Graduate Membership
Initial payment of $50 is required but will be refunded back.

National Membership
The Washington, DC alumni chapter is a recognized affiliate chapter of the Southern University Alumni Federation. We encourage all our local chapter members to join, renew, or enhance your membership with the Federation. Multiple membership types are available - regular, associate, life, and enhanced ruby, sapphire, and diamond. Life Membership status is required to hold a national office with the Southern University Alumni Federation. Click the button for more information about joining the Federation.

Regular or Associate
Regular members are those persons who graduated from the Southern University System at any of its campuses and have paid the dues for the current fiscal year.
Associate members are those persons who attended the Southern University System at any of its campuses, but who did not receive a degree, diploma, or certificate from Southern University, or any other college or university, and have paid the dues for the current fiscal year.
Life Member
Life members are those persons who fulfill the requirements for the regular, or associate membership and have the paid the dues associated with being a “member for life”.
Subscribing Life Member
Subscribing Life members are those persons who fulfill the requirements for the regular or associate membership and have chosen to become Life members through a payment plan. A minimum payment of $50.00 is required for the initial plan subscription and the remaining balance must be paid off within two years.

Enhanced Life Member
Enhanced Life Membership is available to existing life members who would like to continue giving to the University, Federation, and Foundation. To encourage level increases, achievement of each level counts toward the next level. The levels and fees are:
Ruby ($500)
Sapphire ($1000; $500 if already a Ruby member)
Diamond ($5000; $4500 if already Ruby and $4000 if currently a Sapphire)
Associate / Business Member
Associations/Businesses are those organized campus, departmental, or professional alumni associations of Southern University that may be recognized as constituent professional association entities. This also includes local and national businesses. These organizations must not contravene or conflict with the Federation Articles of Incorportaion and Bylaws. Lastly, they have paid the dues associated with the membership category for the current fiscal year.
SUAF Booster
SUAF Booster members are those persons who did not attend any of the Southern University System campuses, but have a relationship with the campus or with alumni. They have also paid the dues for the current fiscal year.

Promote the welfare of the Southern University System and its campuses through financial contributions.

Mentor and network with alumni of all ages to help ensure the longevity and development of the next generation of competent informed and productive Southernites.

Serve as a conduit for charitable giving with direct ties to prospective and current Southern University students and alumni.
