Now Accepting Applications for Fall ‘23 Scholarships

Greetings,

I am Dr. Darrell Dudley-Govan, the new Third Vice-President and Chairperson of the Scholarship and Program Committee for our illustrious Southern University Alumni Federation Washington, DC (SUAF-WDC) Chapter.

During my campaign, I stressed the importance of bridging the gap and strengthening the communication between our chapter and the University’s admission and recruitment office. With the assistance of Ms. Heather Freeman, Executive Director of Admissions & Recruitment at Southern University and A&M College (SUBR), we have confirmed that there are 14 incoming students from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) making their way to The Yard this fall! We look forward to supporting the incoming and continuing students from the DMV who’ve made Southern University their academic home. We will also continue building relationships and working with the University’s administration to help support these students as they transition, persist, and thrive at our beloved alma mater.

Today, July 8, 2023, I’m excited to announce the official launch of our fall 2023 scholarship cycle! We are now accepting applications from incoming and continuing Southern University students for two competitive scholarship opportunities: 1) The SUAF-WDC Chapter Scholarship, and 2) The CLF - Drs. Rudolph and Janette Hoston Harris Scholarship.

  • The SUAF-WDC Chapter Scholarship is our longstanding, competitive, merit-based scholarship open to incoming and continuing students. Thanks to your continuous generosity, we can award multiple students with scholarships valued up to $1,500 each semester.

  • The inaugural CLF - Drs. Rudolph and Janette Hoston Harris Scholarship, named in honor of two of our treasured members, was established upon their passing through the generous support of a grant awarded to the Chapter from the Consortium Leadership Foundation (CLF). The award amount is up to $1,500 and incoming and continuing students are invited to apply.

Minimum eligibility requirements and essay topic are included on each scholarship application. The deadline to apply is 11:59 PM ET, Saturday, July 29, 2023.

We look forward to sharing the announcement of our scholarship recipients upon completion of the holistic application review process conducted by the SUAF-WDC Scholarship Committee.

We will disseminate the scholarship application information to the incoming and continuing students for whom we have received contact information, but we also encourage you to share with students from the DMV who may not already be connected to our chapter. Links and QR codes to the applications are provided below.
