Our Chapter
The Southern University Alumni Federation Washington DC Chapter is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to supporting the mission and future of the Southern University System. Our chapter works to raise funds for scholarships, engage and grow our alumni base, and foster a strong sense of community among Southernites living throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and surrounding areas.
Our Mission
The mission of the SUAF-WDC Chapter is to raise funds to support the Southern University System; grow, engage, and foster community among our dynamic and diverse membership; and recruit, retain, and support Southernites from the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and surrounding areas. Further, the chapter is committed to the uplift of the local community through educational endeavors and other acts of service.
Our Impact

Our Summer Sizzle
Southern Summer Sizzle is the SUAF Washington DC Chapter’s signature summer fundraiser and fiscal year celebration. The event serves as both a year end gathering for alumni and supporters and an important opportunity to raise scholarship funds for students attending Southern University.
What makes Southern Summer Sizzle unique is the diverse audience it attracts. While the event proudly brings together Southern University alumni and supporters, it has also become a highly anticipated experience for residents across the DMV who appreciate Louisiana cuisine, vibrant culture, and community centered events.
In 2025, Southern Summer Sizzle welcomed over 300 guests, bringing together alumni, young professionals, community leaders, and local residents for an afternoon of great food, music, and fellowship. Attendance continues to grow each year as word spreads about the unique experience the event provides.
For sponsors, Southern Summer Sizzle offers a valuable opportunity to connect with an engaged and growing audience while supporting a meaningful cause. Every ticket sold and every sponsorship secured contributes directly to scholarship funding that helps students pursue their education at Southern University.
